Michigan Natural Resources Dept
In 1982 ,Russ Bengel a successful business man who donates $1million dollars of his own funds and his supporters launch the Michigan Wildlife Conservancy .
Their first project is a plan and implementation of the Milli-Ander Wetland Restoration.
Since this time they have achieved a remarkable record of cost-effective habitat restorations.
The MWC implicitly believe that the disappearance of habitat is a critical problem and thus is ever diminishing our capability to provide a natural indigenous environment for native wildlife
They believe they address this problem with a unique approach at Michigan Wildlife Conservancy
They don’t lobby for more government regulation.
They don’t seek to own or manage lands.
The exception to this being the Bengel Wildlife Centre , a purpose built facility providing a Great Hall ( for gala events such as a Grand Ball ), Conference Room , Board Room and Conservation Hall. This facility is available for hire and is in harmony with surrounding environment .
They are unique in that we provide the technical and financial assistance to landowners and managers so they can restore and maintain wildlife habitat on their own land.
